Four Year Old Kindergarten

Welcome To Four Year Old Kindergarten

Welcome to our 4K classroom. The 4K program is designed to introduce both you and your child to school. During the year, your child’s learning will be focused on social concepts, fine and gross motor skills, and basic academic introductions. All learning will be based on themes that will change every two weeks.

Folders

We fill and send home folders with projects and notes for you to see. Please check folders every night. We check folders every morning so if you have notes for us please send them in your child’s folder. Your child will need to have their folder every day. Folders do wear out during the year and will need to be replaced.

Buses/Dismissal

It is very important to send a signed note if your child is not going to follow their normal routine. In order for a change in routine, a parent can make the change in person or have a signed note stating the change must be provided. If something comes up you can always call the school office and they will notify me of the change.

Please keep your child’s bus tag firmly attached to the outside of their backpack. These are very important the first few months of school. They allow everyone to see which bus your child is riding so we can get them home safely.

Snack

Snack in 4k is provided by the parents. Each child brings a snack for the entire class once or twice a month. A new snack calendar will come home at the end of every month for the following month. Please only send healthy snacks to school. Cookies, chips, candy, fruit roll-ups, and fruit snacks are not good choices. Some good choices might be as simple as cereal, popcorn, apples, cheese, crackers, veggies, and pretzels. Please keep it mind that no snacks should contain nuts, peanuts, or coconut due to food allergies. We will try to put your child’s snack day on or near their birthday since that is a special day you are welcome to send a special snack to school. If for some reason you are unable to provide snack please let me know and I will make other arrangements. In addition, milk can be purchased for snack time. $31.50 (½ year) $63.00 (full year)

Classroom Rules

We have nine simple classroom rules in 4K. They are:

1. Take turns
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Use kind words. Say “please” and “thank you”
4. Eat politely
5. Listen
6. Help others
7. Raise your hand
8. Put things away
9. Share

When a behavior problem arises, a child has three warnings before receiving some time in the thinking chair. We always talk to each child after they have spent time in the thinking chair. We ask what the problem was and what could be done differently the next time. You will not hear from me every time your child needs to sit in the thinking chair. You will be contacted only if there is a severe behavior problem or a problem that seems to be happening on a daily basis.

Parent Volunteers

We welcome and appreciate parent volunteers. There will be a sign-up calendar in the classroom for those who are interested. If you are going to volunteer it is important that you reserve that time for your 4K child, younger siblings can be distracting to our learning. However, during the first few weeks of school, we ask that no one volunteers. Separation can be very difficult for you child. It is best for us to get adjusted to school before having parents come in.
