Academic & Career Planning

Introduction

Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.

One of our primary responsibilities of our schools is to prepare students for life beyond graduation.  As a result, Comprehensive school counseling programs are integral to the school’s educational environment and partner with other academic and behavioral initiatives to effect positive changes in student achievement and behavior. As part of this initiative, our teachers, school counselors, and administrators will plan and facilitate the delivery of a career development program to help prepare our students for life after high school.

Specifically, career learning is about acquiring essential age-appropriate life skills and understanding how important it is to plan ahead.  As students become more self-aware, the focus shifts to exploration and planning.  Students need to be able to match their interests and abilities with career paths and possibilities, need to explore those careers, and review educational options that fit their criteria, and identify resources that they can leverage to pursue their goals.

It is our goal to help OFHS students reach their full potential by:

  • First emphasizing self-awareness;
  • Then guiding them through the process of understanding opportunities
  • Then building an actionable plan to reach their full potential.
